Ophelia Frump is the sister of Morticia Addams.
She is portrayed by Carolyn Jones and appears in season two of the 1964 ABC TV series The Addams Family. She appears again in the 1977 TV special Halloween with the New Addams Family.
Biography[]
Ophelia is the daisy-headed sister of macabre Morticia and the daughter of Granny and Grandpa Frump.
The Addams Family[]
After what amounted to a forced marriage by each partner's own meddling mother, Ophelia Frump became betrothed to a very reluctant Gomez Addams, but only after having to twist his arm once. However, during the wedding ceremony when the preacher asked if anyone would object to the union of the bride and groom, surprisingly enough, it was Gomez who finally found the nerve to face Ophelia and declare himself unworthy of her affections. Fortunately for his sake, Ophelia agreed that he was indeed unworthy of her, and she then confessed that she had already found her one true love, her 'Don Quixote', her 'knight in shining armor': Cousin Itt.
Ophelia is also very close with her mother, Granny Frump, although it's hinted at times throughout the TV series that their relationship is strained due to Ophelia's horrible track record with men.

She is always seen wearing a flower crown.
Personality[]
She is closer to being "normal" because she likes to cook normal food and is often very cheery and upbeat. However, she is a bit moody and can be quite gloomy when sad.

Etymology[]
- Ophelia - The name Ophelia is of Greek origin and means "help," "aid," or "benefit".
- Frump - An unattractive woman who wears dated, unfashionable clothes. Alternatively, from the Yiddish surname Frum, meaning ‘pious or observant’, or patronymic from a variation of the name Abraham, Afrom.
Trivia[]
- Her appearance in the original television version, at least slightly crazed, bedecked with flowers, and wearing a long dress, is a tribute to her namesake in Shakespeare's Hamlet, who in her madness gathers flowers by the river until she falls in, at which point, weighted down by her sodden dress, sinks and drowns.
