Morticia, the Sculptress is the ninth episode of the second season of the original series of The Addams Family, and the forty-third overall episode of the series. It first aired 12 November 1965 on ABC.

Summary[]

Morticia wants to do something artistic that the world will remember, so she decides to take up sculpting. Lurch carries in a huge rock for her and she sets to work. Three months later, Uncle Fester still isn't impressed, so Gomez calls in art critic Bosley Swain for an informed opinion. He suggests blowing the sculpture up, and Gomez has to hide this opinion from Morticia. He decides that the best way out of this is to get someone to buy it, and hires Sam Picasso to do the deed. Morticia decides to use the money to sponsor aspiring artists. Gomez is driven to distraction (and near-bankruptcy) by this. When he slides down the fireman's pole to find her sculpting through the night, he tells her she is neglecting her duties as wife and mother. She is unperturbed until she finds the children making fudge and is horrified. She decides she's been neglecting them and gives up sculpture. Gomez is more than happy, because he's been feeling neglected also, and Tish promises to make it up to him.
